Privacy Policy
Last updated June 16, 2026Youmus is built on a simple promise: to be heard, you must listen. Making that loop honest means handling your data with the same care. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Youmus mobile apps, the website at youmus.app, and related services. Your use of Youmus is also governed by our Terms.
Our approach
We collect the minimum amount of information needed to run the listen-for-listen loop, verify that listens are real, keep the community safe, and improve the product. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not run third-party advertising trackers inside the app. Where we can compute something from data you already share rather than asking for more, we do.
Information you provide
- Account details — your email address, your @handle, your display name, and your confirmation that you are at least 16 years old.
- Tracks and audio — the audio you upload (including voice memos and rough demos) and its metadata — title, genre, notes and any cover art you add.
- Your contributions — the reactions, feedback notes, chart saves and chat messages you write to other makers.
- Support requests — the emails and reports you send us, including any details you choose to include.
- Youms purchases — topping up youms is handled by the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Stripe. We receive a confirmation that a purchase succeeded and the youms amount — we never receive or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Listen events — playback heartbeats and listen progress used to verify that a listen really happened (at least 30 seconds, or half the track) before a swipe counts.
- Usage activity — how you move through the deck, the reactions and saves you make, and the actions you take in the app.
- Device and connection — your device type, operating system, app version, IP address, and the approximate location we derive from that IP address.
- Identifiers — the session and device identifiers we need to keep you signed in and to detect bots, farming and abuse.
How we use information
- Run the loop — operate and secure the core listen-for-listen experience and your account.
- Verify and protect — confirm that listens are genuine and prevent fraud, bots, scripted skips and ear farming.
- Earn and rank — compute your ears, the weekly per-genre charts, and your public ear score.
- Inform and support — deliver analytics, send notifications, and answer your support requests.
- Keep it safe and lawful — enforce our rules, keep the community safe, and meet our legal obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the limited ways below.
- Service providers — trusted subprocessors that run Youmus on our behalf — cloud hosting, audio storage and content delivery, payment processing, analytics, push notifications and error monitoring. They may only use your data to provide their service to us.
- Other makers — by design, other users can see your public profile, @handle, published tracks, chart placements, ear score and the public feedback you give.
- Legal and safety — to comply with the law, respond to valid legal requests, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety and property of makers and the public.
- Business transfers — if Youmus is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of that deal, subject to this policy.
Public information
Some information is public by the nature of the product. Your @handle, display name, published tracks, the chart positions you earn, your ear score, and any feedback you leave on other people's tracks are visible to other makers and on public web pages. Your email address, the contents of your private chats, and your account settings are not public. Consider anything you publish or post publicly to be visible to others.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide Youmus. Listen events and abuse-prevention signals are kept long enough to compute ears and charts and to investigate fraud. When you delete your account we delete or de-identify your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records to meet legal, accounting or safety obligations, or where information has already been shared publicly or with other makers as part of the loop.
Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, access controls that limit who on our team can reach it, and continuous monitoring. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
Your rights and choices
You can access, export and delete your data directly in the app, or by emailing privacy@youmus.app. You can opt out of non-essential push notifications in your device or app settings — we will still send the service messages needed to run your account and the loop. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, port or restrict the use of your data; contact us and we will honor those rights.
Children
Youmus is for people aged 16 and older. It is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 16 has given us information, contact privacy@youmus.app and we will delete it.
International data transfers
Youmus operates globally, so your information may be processed in countries other than the one you live in, including by the service providers listed above. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers. By using Youmus you understand that your information may be handled in these locations.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Youmus evolves. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Your continued use of Youmus after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
